Order of Battle of Chinese Armed Forces

The research project on the Order of Battle (ORBAT) of the Chinese Armed Forces began as part of the background work for writing a military thriller novel titled Kaalkut. Initially, the objective was simply to gain a reasonably detailed understanding of the military structure and deployment patterns of India, China, and Pakistan in order to create a realistic conflict scenario for the story. However, during the process, the subject itself became far more extensive and significant than originally expected.

Researching Chinese military formations and capabilities proved especially challenging. Much of the available information regarding China is either tightly controlled by the Chinese government or difficult to verify due to language barriers and limited transparency. Reliable open-source material is scarce and generally scattered across a small number of military analysts, satellite imagery, maps, defence publications, and specialised books. Because of this, gathering accurate and organised information required extensive effort and cross-verification from multiple independent sources.

Over time, the project evolved into a comprehensive independent study covering organisational structures, deployments, formations, and related military assets. Considerable time was invested in collecting, validating, and organising this information. Since the Chinese military continues to undergo rapid restructuring and modernisation, some details may become outdated within months or years. Certain sections may also contain only partial data, which may be expanded upon in future updates.
