Arunachal Pradesh: India Rejects Fresh "Naming" Provocations by PLA



In April 2026, the Indian government officially dismissed China's latest attempt to "standardize" names for several locations within Arunachal Pradesh, a move widely viewed as a "mischievous attempt to manufacture baseless narratives". Beijing refers to the region as "Zangnan" (South Tibet) and has consistently engaged in renaming locations to create a digital and cartographic record of its territorial claims.

In response to this coercive diplomacy, the Indian Army has maintained a heightened state of alert all along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Eastern Sector, stretching from Sikkim to Arunachal Pradesh. While major physical face-offs like the 2021 Naku La clash—where troops came to blows at an altitude of over 5,000 meters—have been resolved through local commander protocols, the military remains vigilant against any attempts at intrusion. Strategic infrastructure development and constant multi-domain surveillance are now the primary deterrents against further PLA aggression in the North East.
